My original PlayStation library grows by another three games with today’s mail call. I’ve never played these. There’s definitely a sci-fi vibe going on.

My original PlayStation library grows by another three games with today’s mail call. I’ve never played these. There’s definitely a sci-fi vibe going on.
Mail call today is all about the original PlayStation with two more complete in case games (War Gods and F1 World Grand Prix 1999) and two demos (Hot Shots Golf 2/Speed Punks combo and Wild ARMs 2).
Today was a great day of game hunting. 12 original PlayStation games (all of which I didn’t yet have), 2 complete in box N64 games, 1 complete Dreamcast game, 3 strategy guides, and a classic video game magazine.
I finished the Air Twister campaign today. Still quite a bit to unlock, but I think I’m good for now after a recent flurry of playing time. It definitely (and randomly) grew on me.
Now this is a legit Golden Tee Golf round. Best one I’ve had so far. I was in the zone the whole way, being smarter than riskier.
Today’s mail call gets a solo spotlight: it’s Darkstalkers 3 for the original PlayStation— a game that’s held its value over time and is (to me) a fun Capcom fighter.
I was intrigued by this find, but couldn’t pull the trigger at that price— especially since I got out of collecting 8-bit and 16-bit games a couple of years ago.
The “Tower of Retro Knowledge”: Strategy guides and magazines from 1995-2005. Many memories of an era when print and digital media could co-exist.
I love having these available to read and refer to when the need or urge strikes.
Is it me, or is the original Pac-Man Championship Edition harder than its sequel? I’m going back to it as part of Pac-Man Museum and I’m, well… pretty effing terrible.
Maybe I’m just out of practice.
Today’s mail call doesn’t necessarily have any “heavy hitters”, but this Ape Escape demo disc is something I’ve had my eye out for.
Air Twister is a game I keep coming back to every now and again. It’s like that arcade game that, if you see it, you’re like, “Why not? I’ll try a game.”
It’s not great. But it’s good enough. The tons of unlockables help with replay value, too.
Went through a full season in Madden 26’s Superstar mode.
As much as I love the upgraded presentation, the game does mess with them a bit and make some key mistakes when queuing commentary or stat overlays. It’s weird.
And objectives are definitely broken.
So… Madden 26. Improvements in presentation, performance issues mar things a bit at times, and Superstar objectives are kinda broken. I am having fun despite the flaws, so that’s something. Also— a MUCH better soundtrack than in recent years.
M2 with another winning compilation when it comes to Gradius Origins. STGs might not be for everyone, but for me… Life Force (aka Salamander) was a big part of my later high school years. Lots of memories.
So I’ve not played Heretic or Hexen until today.
This week’s modernized re-release is such a cool way to be introduced to these games. I’m having a… erm… blast with them.
The final piece of the Razer Pokémon puzzle for my at-work setup came today, to go with the keyboard, mouse, and mouse pad. Looking forward to checking this out tomorrow.
Picked up a few things today.
Always nice to land some more strategy guides for original PlayStation games, along with a couple of games I’ve been missing.
Oh, and that complete-in-box Rogue Squadron unlocks some happy memories.
Spent a good 5.5 hours with Ys X, which is rare given how few games manage to hold my attention longer than an hour. I’m enjoying this more for the story and the music than the combat at this point.
